Ants got you antsy? How to get rid of ants in your home

Sick of ants crawling around? You’re not the only one. One of the most common pest problems our customers face is ants, and there’s a few reasons why.

Why am I getting ants?

Ants have an amazing sense of smell that leads them to food and water. Working together in colonies, ants become experts at following each other’s chemical trail they omit when they find a source of food. This allows the other worker ants to be led right to the same trail.

Poor sanitation and left-out food are some of the main reasons homes may become infested with ants. However, sometimes no matter how much you try to clean up, they still come.

Some species of ants are not only annoying but can be harmful. Carpenter ants tend to leave damage as they create chewing tunnels through wood beams. Ants may also contaminate foods and carry disease organisms such as Salmonella and E.Coli.

No matter your ant problems, our effective ant treatments can make your infestation a thing of the past.

How our treatment works

When treating your home, we do everything possible to help eliminate any ant infestation. We use a mixture of instant-acting treatment, as well as a residual-based treatment.

In the 14 days following us treating your home, you may see a rise in ant activity. This is due to the product disrupting the ant colony. As the treatments get passed around the colony, this activity will decline. You will see ants less and less as we service your home consistently, and eliminate their chance to rapidly grow.

How to keep them away

All the ants are gone for now? That’s what we like to hear. Here are some things you can do to keep them away on your own:

  • Put food away. When ants find a food source, they can effectively show other worker ants how to get there. By using airtight containers and storage bags, it makes it much more difficult for ants to find their way into your home. Should they ever find your food stash, spraying vinegar or placing baking soda helps to divert their sense of smell and throw them off their trail.
  • Identify potential entry points. Identifying ant entry points to your home is one of the most effective ways to keep ants from coming in. Checking for cracks, and ensuring windows and doors are sealed can help prevent them from getting inside. Knowing these areas also helps our technicians to know problem spots they need to spray.
